NYC Bicycle Commuters, Columbus Ave. @ 91st

"Why do we need bike paths? To make it easy for a bunch of hipsters without jobs to ride down to the corner for their latte?"

The bike lane haters love to pigeonhole cyclists as shiftless no-accounts whose travel needs are somehow less serious than those who drive. But here are just a few of the parents who (like me) take their kids to school by bike. Very frivolous indeed, riding your kids to school at 8:20 in snow and freezing temperatures!

I can think of plenty of generalizations about the frivolity (not to mention the danger) caused by parents who drive their kids to school distances of less than a mile, that come a lot closer to accuracy than generalizations about the frivolous nature of bike travel.
