Garden Sentries 18" X 30"
Watercolour on 140 lb. Arches cold press.
This is one of my largest watercolours. I should have stretched the paper before hand but instead just wet both sides, plunked it down on a large sheet of gator board and worked on it without even taping it down. I was very lucky that it did not curl too much and after pressing it under some very large books it flattened very nicely.
I remember hollyhocks growing profusely in our garden in England when I was a child, so painting this was like a trip down memory lane. They do grow here in Canada, but not nearly to the same degree. They are a nostalgic flower for me and this was a long but very enjoyable exercise in dealing with that nostalgia.
