The Picton reading room

This is just a small fragment of the Picton reading room at Liverpool central library. It was completed in 1879 and is based on the rotunda at the British museum in London. It was the first building to be lit by electric lighting in Liverpool. I was enchanted by the thousands of books there, and the fact that you can walk round the gallery behind the clock.
