Blossom Tree on Yellow, embroidery art
8" x 10"
17" x 21" framed
This piece has a patchwork background and couched yarns for the trunk of the tree. The blossoms are made with layers of couched wool, loopy and loose French knots, and glass beads. Some metallic threads highlight the golden yellow background.
Both machine and hand stitching were used extensively over the whole piece. I've made blossom trees before, but this is the very first one to use a yellow background. The embroidery was time consuming on this one, I don't seem to be able to leave any surface untouched. I want people to look closer and find new details each time.
This piece was exhibited at "Cherry Blossoms: A Textile Translation" Exhibition at the Silk Purse Art Gallery, April 4-17 2011.
