Ole Bull's grand piano
Date/place: 1870[?], San Francisco/US
Subject: Ole Bull's grand piano
Notes: Together with the inventor of the propeller, John Ericsson, Ole Bull tries his hand at the construction of a grand piano. The goal is a piano with the tonality of a violin, and which would need tuning only once. They developed a light iron frame, the strings were cast, the patent delivered – yet both prototypes were failures. Only one survived, now serving as a writing desk at Lysøen.
