Hiding In The Dark

East and West Spanish Peaks and the swirl of stars above were barely visible to the naked eye on this late night drive into southern Colorado. But a stop and a long-exposure reveals all of the hidden beauty. Looking for some dark skies and a great view of the Milky Way, Jon Blake, David Kingham, and I headed down for a good old late-night photo-drive.

This two-exposure, composite image shows the colorful center of the Milky Way above East and West Spanish Peaks. It was taken without any moonlight in the dark skies west of Walsenburg, Colorado.

You've set a new standard, Mike. Great job. But did you ever wonder why some stars appear red while some look blue and most are in-between? Here's the answer: www.oneminuteastronomer.com/708/star-colors-explained/

Very nice, looks like you all had a fun trip. It it always amazing how many stars modern sensors seem to effortlessly pull from the sky.
