Fall colors work their way into the foreground as early morning alpenglow from Notchtop Mountain reflects off of Lake Helene. These images were taken about 3 miles above the Bear Lake Trailhead in Rocky Mountain National Park near the town of Estes Park, Colorado.
Lake Helene was without a doubt one of the prettiest high mountain lakes I've seen. Not only were the fall colors showing and the weather was great, but the only others we saw at the lake during the beautiful sunrise were two Elk on the far side (awesome). This was the first lake I'd been to where we didn't have to share it with anyone. Someone seems to always show up by sunrise. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind sharing. But the seclusion we found on this gorgeous morning at Lake Helene made for a truly wonderful backcountry experience.
