Baxter Creek Trail Footbrige, GSMNP

Baxter Creek Trail footbridge over Big Creek, Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

So I went to the Big Creek section of the park with my dog Lulu, hoping to hike to Mouse Creek Falls, but to my disappointment found that dogs are not allowed on trails in the park. How dumb is that?

The hike is two miles, which means that at a slow pace, checking out the landscape, it would take me a hour to get to the falls, an hour to photograph the falls, and one hour back. That's three hours. I find it inhumane to leave a dog in the car for three hours, so basically the park service is inhumane for not allowing dogs on their trails. I understand that dogs and horses don't mix, but on a trail as accessible as the Big Creek trail it doesn't make sense to not allow the casual user of the park to hike with their dog.

Enjoy this photo, because so far this is all I've got from GSMNP.
