Howard Street Cemetery

Day 3 of our New England adventure was a little side-trip up to Salem -- apparently, nobody told the weatherman...


The rain was coming down and we were soaked by the time we got here -- needless to say, none of my photos turned out particularly well under those conditions... So I gave it the "old photo" treatment and this is the result.


The Howard Street Cemetery is supposed to be haunted by the ghost of Giles Corey, who was accused of being a witch and was slowly crushed to death by heavy stones being placed on his chest over the course of two days in the sheriff's attempts to coerce an admission of guilt. His death took place in the alley leading to the cemetery in 1692...
