Bvlgari Resort Bali Ocean Cliff Villa

The Bvlgari Bali is one of the two "exclusive" Bvlgari hotel/resorts in the world. Supposedly representing the "pinnacle of modern luxury", we were quite excited to try this resort. However, it was a big let down.

Due to extensive use of wood in both floor, furniture and decor and also due to the lack of refurbishment and maintenance, the villa suffers from wear and tear extensively and it is not even 3 years old. Look closely and there's evidence of wear and tear everywhere. Wood chipping off badly from furniture as if infested by termintes. Scratch marks on panels. It just doesn't feel "luxurious" anymore. To make things worse, the housekeeping is also extremely sloppy. Notice dirt and stain everwhere. Dirty glasses, stained furniture and worse ( and the one that pushed me over the edge ), a straw of human hair stucked in a comb, courtesy of the previous occupant. For the price charged which is rack rate exceeding USD1000++ per night, this is totally not acceptable. Upon my complain, the resort waived the F&B charges and promised to send me a "free night" certificate as compensation but that never came. Think they just don't bother after making the token apologies.

To be fair, the common areas and views are indeed beautiful. Service wise is just OK, nothing special. However, given the villa condition and the sloppy house keeping, it's totally not worh it. Fortunately, we pay a discounted rate and only stay one night. Avoid this resort, there are much better choices in Bali.

I see the same problem also exist in Landmark Mandarin Oriental which also uses wood extensively although this hotel has way better maintenance than Bvlgari. But still, with each stay, I can't help but notice the hotel room quality deterioriates over time. When compared to the Four Seasons Hong Kong which still looks nearly brand new. Wood may look very "luxurious" when brand new but over time, hotels that use this kind of decor is going to run into maintenance problem.

I posted a complete review on tripadvisor. To read the review, click here. I include some photos there as evidence of the sloppy maintenance and housekeeping of this resort.
