Description: Ben U has a surprising number of presidential items in its archives in part due to Judge Win Knoch. Knoch, a Naperville native, became DuPage County’s first regularly appointed Assistant State’s Attorney and in 1953 was appointed by President Eisenhower to the U.S. District Court of northern Illinois. In 1958 Judge Knoch was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. During the Depression he took the lead in organizing the Naperville National Bank and served as Chairman and President for many years. Knoch was a long time board member and supporter o f Illinois Benedictine College (now Ben U) and was our 1954 commencement speaker. Some of his memorabilia now reside in the Ben U archives, including signed photos and letters of recognition from Presidents Ronald Regan, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, and as pictured here, Herbert Hoover.
