The average class size at the schools we visited was 60. All packed in, often sitting three to a bench desk probably designed to hold two. In some places the desks were literally coming out of the door way.
Yet, they still found focus. They had a hunger to learn because they knew the stakes. If they didn't perform well on the final test of their final formal year, they would have no chance to break free from the poverty and a life of very difficult labor ahead.
And we think our tests are high stakes.
