I haven't actually seen Mad Men yet, but I've heard it's pretty good even for high-continuity drama. Before going to the shoot, I took a look at some of the promotional stills they have on their website in order to get close to the look they were already using. They seemed to go for the unlit look with their lighting, so I kept the light pretty subtile. The fireplace in the background was also an important feature, but It's kind of blocked by her glass.
The light on the left was set low enough to balance well with the ambient, which left her mostly in shadow. Most of the ambient light was coming from an overhead chandelier. It was impressive, but not photographically significant. In order to create an unlit look, I added the light on the right to bring up the shadows and reduce the dramatic appearance of the lighting.
There are minor corrections in Lightroom and Photoshop but they mostly concentrate on color and contrast.
