The Long Mile

Built in 1830 Southend on Sea's pier at one and a third miles long is, "The worlds longest pleasure pier", it has an uncertain future with the cost of running it and so many accidents (Including being cut in half by an oil tanker running through the middle of her causing a 70 foot gap) and many fires during its life time investment would be expensive. There was a company looking to invest in it and make it super modern including air conditioned trains but it looks like Southend council have let that pass.

Seems a shame to me if this structure through lack of investment is now left to slowly be reclaimed by the sea.
