Mothers are mothers, you know…
The meaning of mother is universal and I suppose one can safely say that mothers are something very special anywhere in the world
Here in Brazil and particularly in the underprivileged classes of our society; mothers hold a highly esteemed position, especially with their sons, for whom mothers are the very symbol of protection, even when everything and everyone is failing; mothers are sacred to their sons. It is a relationship almost abstract to describe and certainly impossible to dissolve, but incredibly easy to feel; almost Goddess like.
Carl Gustav Jung means that the Great Mother belongs to the field of comparative religion and embraces widely varying types of Mother Goddess, but also states that the concept of the Great Mother Goddess itself is of no immediate concern to psychology, because the image of a Great Mother in this form is rarely encountered in practice, and then only under very special conditions.
Well I think Jung would have found those very special conditions and many Great Mother Goddess in the favelas of Brazil.
