I love to see and feel how “close-knit” many of the larger and poorer families I work with are, and where there clearly exists concordance between brothers and sisters and cousins too. These are two of Tamiris' four brothers, three of whom participate at Hummingbird’s main prevention centre; 13-year old Diego in the foreground is an artist, whilst his two brothers, of whom 10-year old Leonardo is seen here in the background, just love their football.
It's a great joy for me to be able to support these kids with almost new soccer boots, of which I recently received a donation of 250 nicely used pairs from Canada in support of our football club. There were even enough for me to pass on 50 pairs to another needy favela community where the kids in a small community club were still playing barefoot. As they were used boots, the kids were utterly surprised to see how beautifully kept each pair of boots were, compared to their own holy and down trodden ones, .....that is if they had any in the first place.
My kids and I send a special thanks to Dale & Dianne of Stuffed Animals Children's Charity in Toronto, Canada.
