I really like the feel of the Dalkey Archive Press's edition of William Gaddis's J R (which I'm in the midst of in my "books from the year I was born" summer reading project)—its 700+ pages of nice paper give it a good heft, the semi-gloss cover is soft yet grippy—but I wish that the text was a little crisper. Here it is (on the bottom) compared to a third-printing of the first-edition hardcover from the library. All that extra ink weight on the type does make it just ever so much harder to slog through.
