The funding comes from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure's BC Air Access Program, part of government's BC on the Move 10-year transportation plan.

Adding new runway lighting will allow the airport to expand its services, especially with the expected increase in tourists visiting the area, and also allow for enhanced emergency health care services to the area.
