The Gold Rush Trail Sled Dog Mail Run, which runs from Quesnel to Barkerville Historic Town every winter, was initiated in 1993 as a demonstration sport in the Northern British Columbia Winter Games. Since this beginning, the Mail Run has evolved from a highly competitive 235 mile long qualifier for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race to the multi-faceted non-competitive participation event that it is today. The event draws participants and spectators from across the world.
