In reflecting upon his first visit to Boston College, T. S. Eliot wrote that he was grateful to Sweeney for his "thoughtful kindness and gallantry towards myself and my wife". Of Boston College, Elliot wrote, "We keenly enjoyed our visit to Boston College and it will remain a very happy memory". (Letter from T. S.
