The Spare Link in Clonsilla
Recently restored ex-DSER (Dublin South Eastern Railway) 2-6-0 steam loco No.461 running backwards through Clonsilla Station with the Dublin to M3 Parkway leg of the Spare Link rail tour. Just ahead of the train you can see a new footbridge under construction, and in the distance you can just see the signal giving the train permission to enter the recently re-opened branch to Dunboyne.
The newly re-opened branch originally ran the whole way to Navan before closing to passengers in 1947. It's been re-opened as far as the new park & ride station "M3 Parkway" just north of Dunboyne village. Before the economic collapse the plan was to extend the line all the way to Navan again (though diverging from the original alignment in places). I have no idea whether or not this will ever happen now.
As well as shooting stills I also shot video which you can see on my YouTube channel.
