Georgian cottage, Burford, Oxfordshire
Back to our recent trip through the Cotswolds when we ended up at Burford. This very pretty medieval town is on the south side of the River Windrush in the Cotswold hills in West Oxfordshire. It is often referred to as the 'gateway' to the Cotswolds. The name Burford is derived from the Old English words burh meaning fortified town or hilltown and ford, the crossing of a river. The delightful old stone cottages in the picture are towards the top of the steep hill, which slopes down towards the town centre and the River Windrush beyond.
