Birding along Oregon’s Hells Canyon Scenic Byway

Red Tail Hawks are abundant in Baker County and we were fortunate enough to catch these photos along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway on Labor Day

Baker County’s diverse geography and habitat are ideal for wildlife watching like this Cormorant spotted along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway

In addition to great year round birding, visitors can see deer, bighorn sheep, elk, and antelope, along the three scenic byways that connect in Baker City.

Birding enthusiasts can see more than 300 bird species throughout Baker County.

A few of our favorite birding hot spots include the Sumpter Dredge Wildlife area between McEwen Station and the Sumpter Dredge www.oregonstateparks.org/park_239.php, and along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway www.idahopower.com/pdfs/ourEnvironment/hcBirdCheckList.pdf,
