Do I hear a waltz?
Pianoforte, A baby grand.
Wandering in old houses.
Andando a zonzo in vecchie case.
The piano was built by Giacomo Ferdinando Sievers who was originally from Saint Petersburg and established his company in Naples in 1862. He was granted a patent for a new mechanism in piano construction in 1861, which he proudly displays, not in Italian but in French (we are in the last years of the reign of the Bourbons in Italy), on the pianoforte itself: "Breveté du Roi (the King's patent). In these years Naples was considered an important center for piano construction. In 1868, he wrote a complete guide to the construction and maintenance of a pianoforte: "Il Pianoforte. Guida pratica per Costruttori, Dilettanti e Possessori di Pianoforti". The book, perhaps significantly, was published in Italian.
