The Smouldering Beauty
She sure is 'smoking hot'!
I remember being utterly utterly thrilled to see a 'live volcano' two summers ago when I first visited her. Having lived in southern India for most of my life, I've never seen anything remotely close to a volcano. When I read about the recent eruption of Mount St.Helens, I was shocked and awed by the sheer power of the explosion that literally tore away half the face of the volcano (you can see into the crater here).
It is phenomenal to see how quickly the earth around the volcano has recovered. I heard there were wildflowers nearby and of-course Pavan & I had to go check it out. We ran into crazy traffic from Seattle and only reached here after sunset - I made use of whatever little light there was, hoping to catch the light the next day. Alas, the next day was a complete washout - we only saw grey, grey and more grey clouds.
I hear the wildflowers are out at Mt.Rainier now. I'm not battling the crowds this weekend - I might go there a couple of weeks later if if the wildflowers are still out.
