Drowning Ant

Last night I walked up to the sink in my bedroom

I turned on the water faucet and grabbed my tooth brush

Started to do my toothy deeds

I saw an ant running up the side of the sink

Sprinting for its life

Carelessly I filled the palm of my hand with a small pool of water

And the ant washed down the side of my sink

The water was bubbling all around and I think my sink was clogged

The ant was floating around in circles in front of my face

Its little arms and little legs trying to grab on the thin little bubbles of water

I felt bad for the ant

That tiny thing is drowning while I watch it die

It could be screaming for help from his fellow ants for all I know

It’s too small to hear

So that must mean that it doesn’t matter

It’s just an ant

I said sorry to the ant once I noticed its legs stopped moving

Then I shut off the water and let everything drain down the sink.
