Usuki Stone Buddhas

The Stone Buddhas at Usuki are around 1,000-800 years old, carved into soft volcanic rock created by an ancient eruption of Mount Aso. Unfortunately, the rock is so soft it's easily eroded by weather, water and moss, so work has recently been done to restore them. They're the only stone Buddhas in Japan to be designated as national treasures.
