Number One Astronomy Picture of 2010: Orion from Head to Toe

    Newer Older

This is my Number 1 pick for Astronomy Pictures of 2010: an immense 4000x2600 pixel, 32 picture mosaic of the entire constellation of Orion.

This stunning photo was taken by astrophotographer Rogelio Andreo - blog.deepskycolors.com - who has allowed me to host the 3.3 Mb file on Flickr so his server doesn't explode. :)

Wow. Amazing. Who knew the majestic Hunter had not only a belt and dagger but also a flowing crimson cape?

Yep, I agree. I don't think I've seen a finer photograph this year, and that's saying something as every year the pictures become more and more astonishing
