I was dealing with some extremely harsh light here, mid-day is not normally a good time to be using a camera ! However, since I might never visit such a place again, I gave it a go !! I have used Photoshop to best advantage here, using selective layers with Curves/levels adjustments. I always process my images to imitate Fuji Velvia, which I loved. Selective colour, and using Lab colour achieves this.

That's the boring bit over !

I visited a Masai village on the edge of Amboseli, doing my tourist thingy. I spent over two hours in the company of Joseph, my guide. For a fee of around £12, I was given a Masai welcome, and blessing, shown how they make fire, met the Women and Children, sat inside a hut, (SO dark !) and was provided with some fascinating information, - in return I fired off a LOAD of questions about their life; they too were keen to know of my life in Scotland ! They were also very proud of their new water pump, from which came some very cold water, seepage from Kilimanjaro. During this whole time, I was permitted to snap away at will, they were very happy to pose !

Of course, some of their traditions were alien to me, as were some of my Western ways to them. The thing that amazed me most was their life expectancy. Because of primitive conditions, I presumed it to be low.

This is not the case. Joseph's Father was in his Nineties, a man who had four wives and fourty-eight children !

( Joseph said ONE wife was enough !)

I came away feeling happy, hot, and a lot wiser !
