The decor, the food, the coffee, the buzz, Replete Providore definitely has it. The moment you sit down, you are offered glasses of water, menus and if you like, some coffees.

 

The Mini Egg and Prosciutto Tarts were a small enough serve to give us a bit of a savoury hit before we moved onto the ricotta hotcakes. Good prosciutto, even if the eggs were well done. I suppose they have to be llike that if they are to sit in the display cabinet, ready to reheat.

 

The "famed ricotta hotcakes, featherlight and slathered with lemon curd and strawberries" (The Age Cheap Eats 2007) were good, but not featherlight. I loved the occasionally chunk of ricotta, but today's batter was maybe a little undercooked, turning out to be doughy rather than light and airy. The lemon curd was fantastic, full of zesty lemon and creamy as um... cream :)

 

We also got a lemon curd slice to take home. As expected, it was the same great curd with the top slightly caramelised for presentation. The crust was nothing special though. I thought it needed a bit more savoury buttery goodness to match the acidity of the curd.

 

While the serves were large and very filling, I can't help but feel that breakfast was a bit on the pricey side. I guess this is in Hawthorn, smack bang in the middle of a multitude of private schools.
