It's a....baby leaf!
This is my white oak tree. A little guy only a couple of feet tall at the most. I got him about 3 years ago in the mail for taking a survey and I adore him! It's hard to believe that someday my baby will be over 75 feet tall!
He is very symbolic for me in that I hope to someday soon plant him in the yard of my very own dream house...so I can literally put down roots :) And then some years after that, maybe my great grand children will swing from his strong lofty branches and gather his leaves in the Autumn. Maybe one of them will carve their initials and those of their sweetheart in his trunk.
Every season I have watched this little guy go thru his changes with pride. I wait anxiously when Spring arrives to see tiny buds of new leaves and branches. In the summer his leaves become full and green and heavy for his overall size. In Autumn, his leaves slowly turn bright red, then orange, then brown and the wind carries them across the yard or I collect them and keep them safe like a mother saving the baby teeth of her child. In Winter I try to keep from bringing him in the house for fear it is too cold outside in the snow. This was his first Idaho winter! And apparently he survived because here it is Spring again and his little leaves are starting to show.
I know, I'm silly, but I just love this little tree.
