Chattanooga Choo Choo

Chattanooga, Tennessee


Erected in 1908 on the Southern Railway. The last passenger train stopped on August 11, 1970. It 1973, it was converted into a "vacation complex" with a restaraunt and converted rail cars into suites. In 1974, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and in 1989, Holiday Inn renovated it into a hotel.

    I've been by the "Choo Choo" sign on I-24 a thousand times. I assumed that it referred to a steam locomotive. Is there one at this site? It's a shame that I've never stopped to see the city but that time will come.

    To be honest the only time I've ever been inside was as a kid a good 20 years ago. There are train cars behind that are now used as hotel rooms. I can't remember if an engine is there or not. That would be a great reason for you to stop in!!

    My husband and I spent part of our 1st anniversary there in one of the train cars. There was a restaurant where the wait staff would sing. Our favorite they did was "Love Shack". They were SO good! A guy did my portrait in charcoal another time, and we got our pictures made in antique clothing, like the old west saloon type thing. It used to be a fun place to go.

    I was there at a convention in January - *the* Chattanooga ChooChoo is out in the back - you can sleep there and eat there. Very cool.
