Earth Hour

    Newer Older

On the 31st March ,Sydney had an "Earth Hour" The idea behind this was for everyone to turn their lights off between 7.30pm- 8.30pm to show that it's possible to take action on global warming.See this website for more info.
We thought that we would take the opportunity to get out the telescope and have a look at the sky as hopefully it would be a bit darker. Unfortunatley only a handful of people in our neighbourhood decided to turn off their lights so we decided not to get the telescope out until later.
This is not a wonderful picture of the moon. I couldnt get it to focus on my camera so we ended up using Eriks little Kodak. I cant wait until I get my DSLR later this year ,hopefully I should be able to get better quality pictures through the telescope.
As for Earth Hour ,I hope more people participate next year.

It is amazing. I can't take any of these well. I guess a tripod would help me a lot.. (Ron - contacts photos)

I think it's a great shot, and we heard about the Sydney "earth hour" here in the UK.

I heard about this...Sydney, I believe, actually shut down the entire city, including the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House! Amazing. This shot of the moon is terrific, regardless of the camera used. It brings the Universe so much closer!

And yet still a lot of detail in this shot. (And I'm dying to get an SLR myself.)
