SELF PORTRAIT #465 ( painted with egg tempera/ notes on the tempera medium below)
I have received, from time to time, requests to re-post my notes on how I use egg tempera.
I post them below, with links to useful sites demonstrating the use of the egg tempera medium.
Thanks for the e-mails, everyone.

For those who have asked me for information on how I do an egg tempera painting, I offer the splendid, organized, sane and highly competent demonstration by Jeffrey Harper, a painter from the state of Georgia, U.S.A.. Mr. Harper has a more-or- less " traditional" way of using tempera.
It's not my way, with my bizarre, completely improvisational method and results.
Jeffrey certainly obtains marvelous results, no argument with that . . .

But you may find it and his second demo ( also on the egg tempera website), as well as other information on technique to be found on the tempera site, useful and interesting.
Here's the second painting demo:

Also, some questions and answers for those starting with tempera:
( Mona Diane Conner produces work that is not exactly my favorite sort of thing, but she's an experienced painter and well worth listening to. Also, you know what an old curmudgeon I am-- try not to pay any attention ( smiles . . .)
