Three Girls, Portrait by Overbeck Sisiters, Cambridge City, IN

Fine portrait by the well known Overbeck Sisters Studio located in Cambridge, Indiana. The Overbeck Sisters are largely known as four women potters and artists of the Arts and Crafts Movement who worked in Cambridge City, Indiana from 1911 until 1955. This group included Margaret (July 3, 1863-August 13, 1911), Hannah Borger (March 14, 1870-August 28, 1931), Elizabeth Gray (October 21, 1875-December 1, 1936) and Mary Frances (January 28, 1878-March 20, 1955). Sisters Ida and Harriet and a brother Charles were not involved in their sisters' artistic pursuits (ceramics), however, Ida Alice (an Overbeck sister, 1861-1946), opened a photography studio in Cambridge City in 1890. At times Ida was assisted by her sisters, mainly Hannah. Although the term "Overbeck Sisters" is primarily associated with arts and crafts ceramics, the photography produced by Ida's studio is artistically superb and deserves it's own recognition in my opinion. Found in Ohio.
