Independence Day 2009

Fireworks over Lake Austin, Austin, TX
My version of Trey Ratcliff's www.stuckincustoms.com/ classic shot. Taken by me at the same place but a couple years after Trey's photo. See below for Trey's version.

Trey mentions in his blog that it was a rainy day which gives his version more character with the low hanging clouds. It was a clear night for me so the sky was not nearly as interesting. Also because of the nice weather, there are a lot more boats on Lake Austin than in Trey's version.

Great shot. Trey Ratcliffe actually got me interested in the hdr photography because of this shot. I am the pyrotechnician that shot this firework show. I shot the one he did a few years ago too that made it into the smithsonian. I am very proud to have this show! Austin Country Club is a great place to shoot. Send me a mail and maybe we can meet up to get some shots from 70' away , where I'm at.

I think you did a great job with this one! Personally I like this better than Trey's. Your version feels more real. Love it!! Thanks for your visit to my stream!

Excellent photo! You did an amazing job capturing all the excitement and fun that is in the 4th of July! While I absolutely love all of Trey's work, I think on this photo you may have him beat. I like how you capture more of the surroundings and all of the boats in the water. Great job!

    Andy,
Thanks for your comment. My sons shot the show last night at Circle C. My shots were from right beside the shooter's control board so it's a different perspective than I've ever done before. Tonight, July 4th, back at the 360 bridge, Ben Garner, my youngest son will be shooting a show that will be much bigger than before and he has some fantastic shots planned, plus the finale is planned to be over a minute long. There should be some terrrific shots, tonight. Hope you get some more great shots this year! Look forward to seeing them.
