Egyptian raising water for irrigation

This Egyptian father -- about 28 -- was raising water from one level to another using a goatskin bag balanced by a rock just like it had been done for 2,000 years. His life expectancy was about 40 and he lived with his wife and child in a village of mud houses, most of which were only one room. Photo taken in 1976.
