Orion's Hydrogen Winds

Stretching from M78 at lower-left, through the Flame and Horsehead nebulae, right through to the Great Orion Nebula, this is a two-frame mosaic panorama of (in my opinion) one of the most interesting parts of the sky. This is all hydrogen-alpha light, capturing emission nebula energy.

Details:

Each panel has 8 x 20 min exposures; the right panel has an extra 10 x 1 min exposures (to avoid overexposure of the bright center of the Orion nebula)

Telescope = Takahashi FSQ-85EDX

Camera = STL-11000M

Filter = Baader 7.5nm hydrogen-alpha

Mount = EQ6 Pro

Software = capture, stacking and alignment in MaximDL; mosaicking, levels and cropping in Photoshop

Date = October 31 and November 1, 2010

Location = downtown Toronto, Canada
