Grand view ...

I challenge you to take a look at a larger version of this image (large). It's not often that I do and this time I've uploaded a full scale (8 megapixel) version for a detailed view. The view is from the top of Mt. Thorbjorn (Þorbjarnarfell) looking north towards Svartsengi (Black meadows), The blue lagoon and Vogastapi. When I reached there I was all sweaty and out of breath and thought I had climbed an enormous mountain. But to my disappointment I just found out that it's only 243 meters above sea level.

Landscapes like these gave my ancestors the imagination to come up with stories of mean spirited trolls that were morphed into stone when they saw the light of day. There are actually folklore describing trolls in this mountain as well as stories of outlaw thiefs hiding in the mountain. Standing there I found it quite reasonable to fantasize about such things.

The image is an HDR of 3 exposures 2 stops apart with the smallest possible aperture for larger depth of field. In photoshop I did some curves, levels, manual dodge/burn and healing brush to remove sensor dust.

And on my manners ... I want to thank you all for visiting my photostream and the encouraging response to my previous uploads. Thank you all.
