Quebec, Canada Serpentine Asbestos (Chrysotile) Ore Mineral Specimen

Asbestiform variety of serpentine, shown as visible greenish bundles of white fibers on dark grey-green serpentine rocky matrix. Individual chrysotile fibrils are actually tubular sheet silicate crystals only angstroms in width and detectable with electron microscopy. Inhalation exposures to chrysotile asbestos have been well documented and studied to cause several harmful health effects, including cancers and other incurable asbestos-related diseases.
