Birmingham Central Library

I took the train to Birmingham in order to get some photos of the Library. Like many concrete buildings from the 70s, there are plans to demolish it. These bold civic shapes reflect the ethos of the city in that era.

What is it with 60s libraries that offends me so much? I know some people like this kind of concrete structure but I think it is awful. Seen plenty of others like it too. The uni Library in Durham is similar, thing is is spoils the great view of Ye Olde Durham in the background...

Tarquined Hello Tarquined! Yes, in Durham it would be out of place, but I quite like it in Birmingham; a solid industrial city. The colour isn't nice though, I guess it hasn't aged well.

And should be preserved because of that exact point..

I love this building - every time I see it the idea of it being demolished really upsets me.

SomeDriftwood Thanks for the link - I didn't know about this one, but it's right up my alley. I'll have to seek it out when I'm next up that part of the country.
