    Wow, beautiful stuff. Great light!

Nice Capture Arthur wasn't sure you could use a camera in here?
  • SomeDriftwood 5y

    Thanks!
Yeah, no problem! You're not allowed to take your camera in the Tate, but the Walker's fine.
  • James 5y

Great capture. Reminds me of the light in a similar exhibit in Washington DC

although the word is greatly overused these days, 'surreal' immediately came to mind when I first saw all these scuplted figures in suspended animation in this particular light; the hero (hercules?) in the foreground looks as if he's about to launch himself right out of frame! lol!
  • SomeDriftwood 5y

Actually I looked a few of the sculptures up last time, it seems that the sculptors used to churn them out and there's a few that are exactly the same in the Smithsonian as well.
I'm not sure who the hero is, I'll check it out next time I'm in there. The other statue in the foreground is called 'veiled cupid'.

I've got to get up here some time. I love this crowded bundle of statuary.

Ahh, I wish I'd been there! This is beautiful..wonderful light and sense of space and I agree with Alison...it could be one of your famous street scenes where everyone has been turned to marble.

Nice reminder, I should go for a visit there again!

    great lighting

Hooray! I've realised Merseyside is very Alison Hulot-esque. You'd love the Lady Lever as well. If you do come up, let me know and we can go and take some photos of coffee cups.
Haha, yes the passers by can't walk out of frame if they're marble.
Yes, the sun comes in through those big windows. Some of the statues are spot lit as well.
Definitely. They're totally fine with photography, so long as you don't use a flash. I think the reason they won't let you take pictures in the Tate is copyright.
    Thanks Yawn!
  • conory 5y

Very atmospheric shot, with great lighting
  • THE OLD BRIT 5y

Wow! Just plain old WOW! Conory has got it exactly right. And that top left corner flare makes a good pic a great pic, imho.

I love those shafts of sunlight and the warm tone. You've got the atmosphere of the Sculpture Room brilliantly.
  • Lee 5y

I think the one is conducting the others - a great sculptural orchestra of sorts...
