Todos Santos Chuchumatán is a Maya town high in the Chuchumatán mountains. It takes four hours on mountain roads to get to Todos Santos from Huehuetenango. It is one of the few towns where the Maya men still wear their traditional traje, and even rarer, one where the young men still use it on a daily basis. Todos Santos is high in the mountains, very near the tree line, and thus can be very cold. During the 1980s, time of violence, a huge percentage of the population had to flee to Mexico or the United States. The horse race for the town festival, on All Saints Day, is famous thoughout Guatemala. The traditions of this town have not been as eroded by outside influences as many of the towns that are easier to reach. This, in part, is why I have created this gallery.
