In the towns and cities of Guatemala the most beautiful buildings are usually the Catholic iglesias [churches]. The churches were built by Maya workers and craftsman in the Spanish Colonial style under Spanish supervision. Maya of the churches are 400 or 500 years old. Religion and ritual were central to the Maya before the Conquest and the churches remained central to the Maya experience after the Conquest. [Right now the gallery has more than one photo by a couple of photographers. If I can keep the same breadth of subject matter and the same quality, I may in the future replace one of their photographs with someone who is not represented. Some of these photographers are so good that you could do the entire gallery with just their photographs.]
