Maya spirituality is an inclusive religion rather than exclusive. The Maya believe that the spirit of god/being/the creator is within everyone and within everything—mountians, water, air fire, plants and even rocks. When after the Conquest, the Catholic religion was imposed on the Maya, they found ways to incorporate and hide their traditional beliefs within the Catholic religion. During the 1980s, the time of violence, people who practiced the traditional Maya religion were often persecuted and killed. After the signing of the peace accords there has been a resurgence of interest in the traditional Maya beliefs. Please look at the photographs before you read the comments.
