VOLTA NY 2009 Pictures

The VOLTA NY Art Fair held their much coveted opening party at the Tribeca

Grand Hotel last Thursday night in collaboration with the Guggenheim Young

Collectors Council this evening with luminaries from across the art world.

With liberal quantities of Marilyn Manson¹s eponymous, Mansinthe, and

Grolsch beer as drinks sponsor and Art Review as the media partner, the

event was an all-round success topped off by the funky tunes of DJ, Greg

Boust, from Le Baron, Paris. Despite the crush at the door and concerns that

the fire department would leave the crowd waiting outside as capacity was

exceeded, the revellers saw in the first big party of Armory Week with style

and gusto begging the question: depression, what depression?

The event was held at the Tribeca Grand Hotel as part of a larger

collaboration whereby VOLTA NY and Tribeca Grand Hotel brought together

curators Natalie Kovacs and Victoria Brooks to curate a VOLTA NY Special

Project entitled, A New Stance for Tomorrow. This three-fold project

includes a domed installation and performance in the Sanctum of the Tribeca

Grand Hotel, a series of short films inspired around, and including the

films, of Charles and Ray Eames in the Grand Screening Room, as well as a

cinepod installation onsite at VOLTA NY. These three projects can be viewed

for the duration of the VOLTA NY Fair screening times, performance hours

and more information on the individual projects available on request.
