A few carved pumpkins that I've made over the years

The craft store sells these realistic styrofoam pumpkins, and you can carve them with an exacto knife if you're patient. So each year I end up succumbing to the lure of creating ever-more complex pumpkins. The first year I made Riley's Spiderman pumpkin and a Thomas the Tank Engine pumpkin for Casey. Then it was the Tree of Life one. Last year I made a tiger pumpkin and a mother bear and cub one, and gave them as gifts to Les and Ardyn. I should have taken pics, I guess.

These are awesome, I hate so much every year to see my "masterpiece" rot away. I'll hit the craft store this year first, perhaps with not nearly the results your steady hand has.

Seen in a discussion of Utata. .

I have been wondering if you can carve the "craft" pumpkins. It appears you can, thanks for the heads up. I'll go get one tomorrow and see it will work for my style...

Hey, Muddyrabbit, just watch which type of craft pumpkins; some are way thicker than others and don't carve as well. I found mine at Michael's Craft Stores. Also, I'm not at all sure that you could do surface carving (not cutting all the way through) like you've done on your beauties; the styrofoam is probably not light translucent like real pumpkins, though I confess I haven't tried that technique. Good Luck and let us see what you come up with!

I remember the first time I saw these. It has been seven years now! I loved them then and love them just as much now! I saved cats in the moonlight as my background and I must have lost he picture over the years so I tried to find you again and I did! That is GREAT! I am so intrigued with that carving I wanted to find it again! I have never forgotten anything about it so I had to find it! I love to just look at it and dream.
