Sound Map 2013 / Ilan Green (IL)
SOUND MAP 2013 consists of digitations of the acoustic surroundings of the old city of Jaffa, a city with a multifaceted history of political conflicts and cultural tensions, and therefore a symbolic space through which identities are defined. The environmental sound of a square kilometer is scaled down into the acoustic space, maintaining the proportions of the area sampled, similar to how geographical maps are represented in different scales. The sound of the Old City is extracted and condensed, enabling the visitor to experience the city at a (an ear) glance.
