      I love the way this grouse blends in so well, and yet against the sand we can see her well.
      Looking back, I see the same with the heron against the blue water. Much of nature is blending in, not the bold contrasts so many of us anticipate. In the flower world, however... they need to be noticed by pollinators, so things are showier.

      Interesting how in the bird world the males are showy and the females blend in.... and actually I am not sure with this one!

      Arno & Louise, another outstanding pic. Since the ID still seems pending,
      Namaqua Sandgrouse (Pterocles namaqua). Btw, not restricted to Namaqua but found all over arid Sourth Africa.

      One of the ID features that distinguishes it from the other sandgrouse in the region -- the "long, pointed tail" which your photo wonderfully captures.
