Manny Quiles: Hunts Point, Bronx

    Prev Next

Former pro boxer (lightweight) from Connecticut, now an addict living in a homeless shelter. Manny's career ended after several injuries left him with a right eye that is unable to focus. Unable to fight, with little other skills, he found himself homeless and turned to heroin.

He was with five other men from the shelter hanging out in the park. All of them told me their story, how addiction has taken everything from them.

When I returned to give him picture I was told he had been removed from the shelter, accused of theft. I have not been able to locate him since.

Looks like, and reminds me of the Christian Bale character in 'The Fighter'. Great portrait.

      Thanks everyone.
You can Google Manny Quiles and get a few stats; he was 6-2 in fights, all of them in the late 70's

Manny does have trouble speaking, but i was able to talk to him with a translator. He was clean till the boxing fell apart....

Poor manny. Why gave your life to drugs that easy? Losing a career doesnt mean you already lose your future. This is sad. Why don't get a Drug Abuse Treatment to help yourself recover?
